Watts, kilowatt-hours and your bill
Appliances are rated in watts (W). Your utility bills you for kilowatt-hours (kWh): 1,000 watts running for one hour. Multiply an appliance’s watts by the hours it runs, divide by 1,000 and multiply by your rate per kWh to get the cost.
Use your real rate
State averages are a good starting point, but your bill shows your actual price per kWh, including delivery charges. Divide the total of your bill by the kWh you used for a realistic all-in rate.
